How it works

Days and weeks are simple arithmetic: weeks are converted to days, added to the start date, and the calendar handles month lengths and leap years for you.

Months and years are different because months are not the same length. Adding one month keeps the same day number wherever that day exists — 15 January plus one month is 15 February. When it does not exist, standard calendar behaviour rolls the date into the following month, so 31 January plus one month lands in March. That is the normal behaviour for date arithmetic; if an exact day matters, add days instead of months.

The calculator combines all four fields in one pass, so you can add 1 year, 2 months, and 10 days at once. The operation setting applies to every field: choosing subtract moves all of them backwards.

The days-shifted result is the plain calendar distance between your start date and the answer, which is a good sanity check when months are involved.

  • For contractual deadlines, prefer days over months — 'within 30 days' is unambiguous, 'one month' is not.
