Average Order Value Check

Calculate current AOV, gap to your target, and the extra monthly profit closing that gap would earn.

Enter every amount in the same currency. This selector only changes the symbol shown — it does not convert exchange rates.

Current AOV

$30.00

Target AOV

$40.00

Gap per order

$10.00

Total gap this period

$4,000.00

Net profit added per order

$3.21

Low Profit / Needs Optimization

Net monthly profit added

$1,284.00

Estimated annual gain

$15,408.00

Extra fees on the gap

$1.29

Bundling extra items into an existing order avoids a second $0.30 fixed transaction fee vs winning a separate order.

Short example

$12,000.00 revenue over 400 orders = $30.00 AOV. Lifting AOV to $40.00 means each order needs an extra $10.00. After a $5.00 product cost, ~13% fees, and $0.50 packaging, that adds ≈ $3.21 profit per order — about $1,284.00/month.

All calculations are estimates based on average platform fees. Real profits may vary depending on category, ads, and shipping.

Average Order Value (AOV) for Shopify Stores

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your numbers in each field above — the calculator updates instantly as you type, so there's nothing to submit.
  2. Use your real figures when you have them, or sensible estimates while you're planning. If a field doesn't apply, leave it at zero.
  3. Compare the results, then change one input at a time to see how each lever (price, cost, fees, volume) moves the outcome.

Formula

AOV = Total revenue ÷ Total orders · Extra profit per order = (Gap × (1 − Fee%)) − Extra product cost − Extra packaging

Worked example

$12,000 revenue, 400 orders, target AOV $40, $5 extra product cost, 13% fees.

  1. Current AOV = $30, gap = $10
  2. Extra fees on gap = ~$1.30
  3. Net extra profit per order = 10 − 1.30 − 5 − 0.50 ≈ $3.20

Answer: ~$3.20 more profit per order — ~$1,280/month extra

How it works

Raising AOV is usually the cheapest way to grow. You've already paid the ad cost and won the trust — one extra bundled item can add 10–20% profit without new customers.

How to interpret your results

  • Dollar values are shown per sale, per order, or per item unless a result is explicitly labelled monthly, weekly, or daily.
  • Percentages (margin, ROI, conversion rate) are easier to compare across products and price points than raw dollars — use them when you benchmark.
  • A positive result means you're ahead after the costs and fees you entered. A negative result means the current numbers don't work — change a lever (raise price, cut a cost, lower ad spend) and recalculate.
  • Treat the output as a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Fees, taxes, and conversion rates shift over time — re-run the numbers whenever a key input changes.

Common mistakes

  • Chasing AOV with heavy discounts (bundle bogo etc.) that erase the gain.
  • Ignoring extra product cost and packaging on the upsell.
  • Comparing AOV across categories with very different price points.

FAQ

What's a good AOV target?
Aim for 10–25% above your current AOV as a first milestone. Big jumps usually need product-line changes.
Do bundles increase AOV?
Yes, if priced correctly. Use the Bundle Profit Check to make sure the bundle still profits.
