Short example

A $40.00 product at 20% off sells for $32.00. With $10.00 product cost, $5.00 shipping, 9.4% combined fees, and $0.30 fixed fee, the discounted sale still keeps roughly $13.69 in profit (~42.8% margin).

All calculations are estimates based on average platform fees. Real profits may vary depending on category, ads, and shipping.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your numbers in each field above — the calculator updates instantly as you type, so there's nothing to submit.
  2. Use your real figures when you have them, or sensible estimates while you're planning. If a field doesn't apply, leave it at zero.
  3. Compare the results, then change one input at a time to see how each lever (price, cost, fees, volume) moves the outcome.

Formula

Sale profit = (Price × (1 − Discount%)) − Cost − Fees on sale price − Ads

Worked example

$40 product, $12 cost, ~13% fees, $2 ads, 20% off.

  1. Sale price = 40 × 0.80 = $32
  2. Fees on sale = ~$4.16
  3. Profit = 32 − 12 − 4.16 − 2 = $13.84

Answer: $13.84 profit (~43% margin)

How it works

A discount comes straight out of your margin. A 20% discount often eats 40–60% of a healthy profit because your fixed costs (product, shipping) don't shrink with the price.

How to interpret your results

  • Dollar values are shown per sale, per order, or per item unless a result is explicitly labelled monthly, weekly, or daily.
  • Percentages (margin, ROI, conversion rate) are easier to compare across products and price points than raw dollars — use them when you benchmark.
  • A positive result means you're ahead after the costs and fees you entered. A negative result means the current numbers don't work — change a lever (raise price, cut a cost, lower ad spend) and recalculate.
  • Treat the output as a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Fees, taxes, and conversion rates shift over time — re-run the numbers whenever a key input changes.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a 20% discount as a 20% profit hit — it's usually much bigger.
  • Ignoring that fees drop slightly along with the price, but product cost does not.
  • Discounting past break-even 'to move volume' without measuring the loss.

FAQ

What's the biggest safe discount?
The one that leaves at least your target margin. The calculator returns the max break-even discount so you know your ceiling.
Does this include shipping?
It uses your normal cost inputs. Add outbound shipping into 'ads' or extend product cost if shipping isn't already baked in.
