Profit After Ads Calculator

See real profit at the order or product level once ads are allocated per sale — plus how much the ad cost reduced your margin.

Enter every amount in the same currency. This selector only changes the symbol shown — it does not convert exchange rates.

Profit after ads

$9.70

High Profit Potential

Profit before ads

$12.70

Total ad cost

$3.00

23.6% of pre-ad profit

Margin after ads

32.3%

The sale is still profitable after ads.

Short example

A $30.00 sale with $8.00 cost, $1.00 packaging, $5.00 shipping, and ~$3.30 fees leaves $12.70 profit. Add $3.00 ad cost per sale and profit after ads is ~$9.70.

All calculations are estimates based on average platform fees. Real profits may vary depending on category, ads, and shipping.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your numbers in each field above — the calculator updates instantly as you type, so there's nothing to submit.
  2. Use your real figures when you have them, or sensible estimates while you're planning. If a field doesn't apply, leave it at zero.
  3. Compare the results, then change one input at a time to see how each lever (price, cost, fees, volume) moves the outcome.

Formula

Revenue = Price × Qty · Fees = Revenue × Fee% + Fixed × Qty · Profit before ads = Revenue − (Cost + Packaging + Shipping) × Qty − Fees · Profit after ads = Profit before ads − Ad/sale × Qty

Worked example

$30 price, $8 cost, $1 packaging, $5 shipping, 10% + $0.30 fees, $3 ad/sale.

  1. Fees = $3.30
  2. Profit before ads = 30 − 14 − 3.30 = $12.70
  3. Ad cost = $3
  4. Profit after ads = $9.70

Answer: ≈ $9.70 profit after ads (32.3% margin)

How it works

Ads look free until you allocate them per sale. Sellers who skip this step scale campaigns that quietly lower per-order profit below break-even.

How to interpret your results

  • Dollar values are shown per sale, per order, or per item unless a result is explicitly labelled monthly, weekly, or daily.
  • Percentages (margin, ROI, conversion rate) are easier to compare across products and price points than raw dollars — use them when you benchmark.
  • A positive result means you're ahead after the costs and fees you entered. A negative result means the current numbers don't work — change a lever (raise price, cut a cost, lower ad spend) and recalculate.
  • Treat the output as a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Fees, taxes, and conversion rates shift over time — re-run the numbers whenever a key input changes.

Common mistakes

  • Splitting total ad spend evenly across all orders instead of ad-attributed ones.
  • Ignoring ad cost when comparing sale prices between platforms.
  • Using best-case CPC — use last month's actual number.

FAQ

How do I get ad cost per sale?
Divide the campaign's total spend by the orders it drove. Ad platforms usually surface this directly.
Should I include ads in every product's profit?
Yes — even a small allocation. Products with no ads either subsidize the ones that do, or should be priced to include a reserve.

Why trust this calculator?
