How Much Does Amazon FBA Cost?

Amazon FBA is convenient, but the fees are some of the most complex in ecommerce — and they often add up to 30–45% of your selling price. Here's every fee broken down, with 2026 rates.

The four main FBA fees

Referral fee — Amazon's commission on each sale.

FBA fulfillment fee — a per-unit charge for picking, packing, and shipping.

Storage fees — monthly rent for the space your inventory occupies.

Professional selling plan — $39.99/month if you sell more than ~40 items a month.

Referral fee

Most categories pay 15% of the total sale price, with a $0.30 minimum per item. Rates range from about 8% (some electronics and grocery) up to roughly 20% (jewelry). This is charged on every sale regardless of how you fulfill it.

FBA fulfillment fee

This is a flat per-unit fee based on your product's size and weight — not its price. In 2026 it starts around $3.30 for small standard items, roughly $4.98 for large standard, and climbs steeply for oversize products. Fees rose by an average of $0.08 per unit on January 15, 2026, and a fuel surcharge of about 3.5% of the fulfillment fee was added in April 2026.

Storage fees

Amazon charges monthly for the space your inventory uses — around $0.75 per cubic foot from January to September, jumping to about $2.40 per cubic foot in the October–December peak. Inventory sitting longer than 365 days also incurs a long-term storage fee (about $6.90 per cubic foot).

The fees that catch sellers out

Inbound placement fees when Amazon distributes your stock across warehouses.

A low-inventory-level fee if your stock runs thin relative to sales.

Aged-inventory surcharges on slow-moving stock.

Returns processing fees in some categories.

These are easy to miss because they show up buried in settlement reports, not at the point of sale.

A worked example

You sell an item for $29.99 that costs you $7.00, plus $1.00 inbound shipping per unit.

Referral fee (15%): $4.50. FBA fulfillment fee (large standard): $4.98. Total Amazon fees: $9.48.

Profit after all costs: $29.99 − $7.00 − $1.00 − $9.48 = $12.51 (about a 42% margin). Use the calculator to run your own product through the same math.

How to keep FBA fees down

Optimize packaging and size — fulfillment fees are driven by dimensions and weight.

Keep inventory lean to avoid storage and aged-inventory surcharges, especially in Q4.
