Add up every launch cost, then see how many sales — and what revenue — recovers the investment, plus first-month ROI.

Enter every amount in the same currency. This selector only changes the symbol shown — it does not convert exchange rates.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your numbers in each field above — the calculator updates instantly as you type, so there's nothing to submit.
  2. Use your real figures when you have them, or sensible estimates while you're planning. If a field doesn't apply, leave it at zero.
  3. Compare the results, then change one input at a time to see how each lever (price, cost, fees, volume) moves the outcome.

Formula

Launch cost = Samples + Design + Photo + Ads + Software + Inventory + Packaging + Other · Contribution = Price − Product − Ship − Fee · Break-even sales = Launch ÷ Contribution · Month-1 profit = Expected × Contribution − Launch

Worked example

$1,130 launch, $35 price, ~$18.30 costs+fees, 40 first-month sales.

  1. Contribution ≈ $16.70
  2. Break-even = 1130 ÷ 16.70 ≈ 68 sales
  3. Month-1 profit = 40 × 16.70 − 1130 = −$462

Answer: Break-even at 68 sales; month 1 still $462 short

How it works

'The launch made $X in revenue' is not the same as 'the launch was profitable'. Break-even sales is the honest KPI — everything below it is unpaid launch cost.

How to interpret your results

  • Dollar values are shown per sale, per order, or per item unless a result is explicitly labelled monthly, weekly, or daily.
  • Percentages (margin, ROI, conversion rate) are easier to compare across products and price points than raw dollars — use them when you benchmark.
  • A positive result means you're ahead after the costs and fees you entered. A negative result means the current numbers don't work — change a lever (raise price, cut a cost, lower ad spend) and recalculate.
  • Treat the output as a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Fees, taxes, and conversion rates shift over time — re-run the numbers whenever a key input changes.

Common mistakes

  • Skipping sample and photo costs because they feel one-off.
  • Judging launch success on month-1 revenue instead of ROI.
  • Ignoring ad spend that ran before launch day.

FAQ

How long should a launch take to break even?
60–90 days is typical for a healthy launch. Longer and the launch either had too much upfront cost or too little demand.
Do I include ongoing ad budget?
Include only launch-window ads. Ongoing ads belong in campaign or monthly profit calculators.
