Frequently asked questions

General background on this topic. Informational only — not financial, tax, or legal advice.

What is a break-even point?
The break-even point is the sales volume at which total revenue equals total costs. Beyond it the store covers more than its costs; below it the store operates at a loss.
Which costs go into a break-even calculation?
Fixed costs (Shopify plan, apps, domain) plus variable costs per order (product cost, transaction fees, shipping, packaging). The guide lists common categories.
Does this replace an accountant?
No. This is a planning estimate based on the numbers you enter. Tax treatment and reporting requirements vary by country and aren't covered here.
How often should I redo break-even analysis?
Whenever fixed costs, pricing, or supplier costs change meaningfully. Many sellers revisit it monthly or each time they launch a new product.
